Information About 6th Grade Camp

Hello Parents, and thank you for your support for 6th grade camp this year! We had a very successful and enjoyable return to camp last year which included lots of hiking, many fun and educational activities, good food, an animal show, and even a day of snow falling from the sky!

Camp week at Three Oaks Outdoor Science School will take place Monday, April 29th through Friday, May 3rd, 2024.

If you need general information about camp or a packing list, please click on the links below.

You may have read in your student's binder reminder that the camp dates are May 6th through May 10th. This is incorrect! Again, the CORRECT camp dates are Monday, April 29th through Friday, May 3rd, 2024.

*****Here is the latest update on what to expect this coming Monday, April 29th, the first day of camp!*****

  1. ALL students, whether they will go to camp or stay here at Chaparral that week, will arrive at school at the regular start time.
  2. Students who will remain at Chaparral next week will go directly to their advocacy classes. Once attendance is taken, students will be directed to the Multipurpose Room (MPR) for instructions about a class rotation in which they will take part during the week. The rotation will include math, science, social science, and PE classes, and will take place during the regular school hours. School will begin and end at the regular times.
  3. Students who will go to camp will leave their luggage by the fence above the lower field. Students will look for their bus number on the fence and leave their luggage near that number. If students have medication, either prescription or non-prescription, the meds should be taken to the school office and dropped into one of six plastic boxes inside the office and to the right. The boxes will have student bus numbers and students should place their meds in the box that matches their bus number. Once luggage and meds are taken care of, students will then go to regular advocacy classes.
  4. After attendance is taken in advocacy, campers will be dismissed to the classroom of the teacher who will supervise their bus. Students will be informed which room to go to at the end of advocacy and will wait there until it is time to load buses. After buses arrive, students will go in groups to their assigned bus with their teacher supervisor, load buses, and leave for camp. We will inform the school office that we have arrived at camp safely about an hour and a half later.
If a student goes to camp, they should not bring money, snacks, cell phones, smartwatches, knives, or aerosol sprays such as perfumes or body sprays which may attract insects or animals. Do not bring anything expensive which might get lost or broken. Books, cards, flashlights, and digital or film cameras are OK, no other electronic devices allowed. "Not allowed" items will be confiscated and returned to students after camp is over.

Parents, please be aware that school buses cannot accommodate camper luggage, so student campers will need to be brought to school by car. Because of this, traffic is likely to be heavier than usual, so please leave extra time to make it to school in time for drop off. Please consider carpooling to reduce traffic! This applies to students who will remain at Chaparral as well. If you wish to wait until camp buses leave so you can send off your student for the week, please move your car to a parking space in the neighborhood and NOT the Chaparral staff parking lot as our staff will need places to park.
