hey welcome everybody that said Chaparral Middle School back to school Night Live webinar going to go ahead and to our principal mr. Thibodeau Chaparral families hi this is Ron Thibodeau I am the principal here at Chaparral Middle School and it is my distinct pleasure to our back-to-school distance version we certainly never done anything like just before so we appreciate if you bear with us as we go through this I'm going to ask mr. where to go ahead and transfer over to our presentation for this evening while I talk to you a little bit about the school imma get my name is Ron Thibodeaux and I'm the principal here this is my 11th back to school night at Chaparral Middle School and perhaps the most unique of all of them we are going to be going to a non-traditional format as you know and I'm going to be going over that with you alone so that you can navigate a little bit easier. But I do think you will find the information you're going to get from this is just as relevant as an in-person meeting with the teacher the only difference is that you're not going to be a shake their hands and energy sorts of things that you would do otherwise but right now anyway. It's just as good and I'm going to remind everybody to please if you haven't yet login and get your child's Aries schedule so you know what their classes are cuz that's important for this event I'm if your students are in the other room you can yell over and ask them to write down their classes bye. So you have it cuz it's important that they know that now I'm going to start off but I've already introduced myself I'm going to tell you a little bit about myself I am a history teacher by design by By by Train I guess you could say and I was a history of history teacher at the high school level and I also coached several different sports at the high school level and I started off my career in the Unified School District where is actually I grew up as well before moving out to Diamond Bar High School where I was an instructional Dean or eight years prior to coming over to Chaparral Middle School where I now have been the Principal for 10 years and I love the school and I love I think that you're going to find that you will to things said to tell you that the school really Prides itself on trying to produce well-rounded chips and I have to say that would that be in your charge this year is more challenging than ever because our teachers in our staff assistant principal ways to give kids experiences that go beyond the computer in a distant setting and that's not going to be easy so we certainly have our just to try and continue our Mantra producing well-rounded kids and making sure that we put kids is our priority but we're going to be trying our best we're going to be giving you a little bit of information about what the teachers have plans tonight I'm going to introduce some of the other people that are panelists here this evening to start with the best assistant principal this side of the Pecos this is Denise Laura but she's going to be over the AP tablet here in just a little bit and talk a little bit about what the AP does here at the school once you're back to school night I am your assistant principal you may have received a couple of emails from me we're going to continue to do that if not on campus remotely and when I find out that I oversee is. safety with the teachers also with our counselors along with some other sports yeah and so you will hear a little bit more from them have joined a panelist on the screen what you are we call our order communication to make sure that we are on the same page and making sure that you feel supported again from a distance standpoint over at the very top is mr. Thibodeau but I'm going to go kind of big group over at the bottom most of you have been coming on tour Champions have heard us basically inform you that we are adhering to CDC guidelines and so are fun staff or the first few people that you will probably meet when you come by appointment or camp you will see them in a few slide over but they're here to serve a lot of the communication piece if for some reason you have concerns about something related to a class encourage you always reach out to our teachers 3rd teachers have reached out through its not Aries through other means either Google Classroom to inform you about their classrooms and you will hear more from them later as we progressed through our back to school night but again any questions specific to their classes the teachers have reach out to them contact you back within about 48 Hours depending on the volume of emails they will let you know when it comes to academic and classes so have a team of three wonderful counselor's we call them are ssris and they will actually share a little bit more work with our newest greatest cougar Joi campus are 6th graders and alongside him is Miss Aquino she is our seventh grade as a sorry if you were here last year you will recall that your child has a sixth grader had her into the right to party CMS evil she is our eighth grade as us are a working with our I guess oldest students on campus to some extent because when they returned she she knows them now for at least 1/2 maybe more years because she for men with them from 6th grade to 7th grade and 8th grade social studies offer many Services of support and again they're going to go into detail about that role is to work together with this team concerns may be about like I said earlier school safety and might might be something now in this digital area of discipline are we navigating these tools from a distance learning staff so we have inform students as we we have yesterday the counselor has had a presentation and that presentation where they went into detail about our student expectations we have systems in place digitally that they went over we have things called that yearly notification we have other tool called goguardian to campus the counters myself along with mr. Thibodeaux we want to make sure that this environment is always stay while they're on campus and also as much as we can support you from a distance  point send home a video earlier this week on Sunday about back to school night this is hyperlink to hear this information will post on tour School website at Chevron middle. Org at approximately 5:20 this evening also see to the right hand side of his presentation another helpful video link and when I say hyperlink it means you will be able to just hover over it and click on it to see the video this one is going to be very encouraging for parents and students alike to make sure that when you're reaching out to Universe death you follow these nice friendly guidelines as far as drafting an email for a stab cuz that is are a pretty powerful line of communication right now so I'm going to go ahead and click over and introduce are ssris and they will then go through an explain some of the many services that they offered for students hi can you hear me yes we can. I just want to make sure good evening parents my name is Christina Aquino and the 7th grade sorry I've been at Chaparral this is going to be my 16th year and this is a very unique year for me and for all of them for all of you and for all of us so welcome to night at we want to just welcome you and share with you what are call Liz as a student staff resource advisors were school counselors here to support your students and we want to provide a support is social emotional academic and some a career so those are the three domains that we provide support in and mostly especially in Middle School of the two domains that we really are involved in with your child is academics as well as soap emotional and this is evil and mr. try to be able to come on I will talk about the social emotional and the character do we just want to know we just want you to know also that it's an honor to be able to Journey with you as well as with I'm Yours your student and we get to travel with your student all three years so I get to I get to be with my kids all three years and we get to see their their gross and work together as a team and we also provide I'd services so if if for some reason you need support outside of the school then our program our counseling team would be able to provide that for you and and guide you to where you're supposed to go and get those services people talk about the character Ed program that we have here at Chaparral hi parents good evening it's good to see you this is my sixth year at Chaparral Middle School so it's my second time in 8th grade but it's my 20 6 year and education I did a lot of teaching before I got here so it's exciting to be here with you it's exciting to be with 8th graders I love that we get to stay with our kids and travel with them all three years I could really get to one of the things that we do here at Chaparral is we we integrate into the classrooms what's called character counts and there are six traits that we focus on what the students throughout the year and my part in that is I helped push out lessons and materials to the teachers so that the teachers can actually work with the students on their character at the six traits are trustworthy respect responsibility fairness caring and citizenship so throughout the year we we cover those areas we have also started to help the teachers by pushing out social-emotional send into the classrooms as well and we work with the teachers closely as well as providing no social emotional well-being of our students in one more working with them okay I'm going to go ahead and transition over to our next tab here for good with ssris and again there is many services that are counselors offer is all house on her school website I'll let you know when we get to the last tab called links you will see all of these documents kind of float over to them so that you can see the wonderful wealth of information that they provided for all of our students and Families next time I want to make sure that although we're close as a campus we do have a lot of support staff that is in our front office and although our office open now at 8 a.m. you should know that these ladies are working hard to respond to emails answer your reach out to you and just make sure that you know all the ends are being covered from our front office lady who knows she's our ministrative assistant she here daily with the support staff team helping her we have Winters in charge of attendance she also has a forum for people who are registered she has a link set up so you can email her until have a form where you can turn in documents we have the pills are bad for health clerk is helping us a lot of with but what specifically dealing with immunization paperwork and she also has a system where you can upload and send it to her so she can collect those from you I remotely please listen solid or office assistant also helping manage a lot of the emails that come through from our school Westside at Chaparral Middle. Org you click on the contact button she is one of the primary people that will reply and let you know we're following up on your Communication phone calls again something this is a team effort and everybody kind of shares a little piece of it because we do want to make sure you guys are in the loop with everything that's happening here at school I want to make sure that I highlight that the teachers that your children have are extremely dedicated you will see in a few minutes of presentations that will appear on our school website again exactly at about 5:20 they will populate there but I want you to know that many of the teachers are children have also taken other roles leadership roles some of the teachers at UC mention here over the right hand side from all the way down to yearbook these teachers also go through a navigate a lot of opportunities that we offer what's in their departments they're helping lead grade curriculum decision-making so just know that again if you don't get an email reply instantaneously we ask you know 48 hours and then please be patient especially teachers are taking on a lot more rolls to support system here at school now I'm going to go in and try like one last time before I go back to the store Thibodaux this here is knowing that we are operating and a distance learning environment we want you guys to know that we don't only support you academically but we have set up social emotional learning as our counselors mention and one of the things at the district has gone through provide is the porch either personal or family guidance maybe there is something to do with mental support that we might need if you're curious about that you can visit the district's website and and are in our presentation is actually hyperli directly to the District page so you can find out more information about how they can offer a mental Wellness tools to either your child or your family I should also mention that we have a school Psych she is always available and ready to help Miss Gutierrez Gutierrez put together a video where she introduces herself again it's posted on our school website and hyperlinks here to this presentation the person who helped with immunization paperwork and any other a specific needs that your child might have to regard to their medical condition paperwork etcetera last but not least person who is our school librarian it has been phenomenal in connecting you with a textbook roll out pick up late registration for checks the things of that nature she's been handling the communication and doing a great job on the Carlson if you see her links on her school play it's there and again you will find a lot of information and when in doubt you email and reach out to these individuals are fighting for more information about that as we have over here on the other end with your tran I don't want to overlook anything I may have clicked on already I would you like to add anything to our ssre tap so my apologies everyone had a little difficulty some Gremlins trying to keep me out but I definitely want to be here tonight to read all of you one of the highlights of the social emotional learning has been a big piece of what we're working on as of the counseling team knowing that even in this time special in the time but depend on making all the Nuketown system that were working on within the virtual distance learning we are here to support your kids I don't support the students to make sure that they are supported emotionally during this time we know that's really important so we are working on that are you will see a lot of communication from us regarding those areas okay great I'm going to go ahead and go back to our amazing principal mr. Thibodaux just going to make sure that I'm going to unmute you master to go there we go thank you Miss Laura I appreciate that and thank you counselor for getting on board with this night on The Strand no worries it's happened to us all this distance is everybody and I think what are the most important things is we all need to remember Grace we've been telling our teachers about this you know we've been asking for this for my parents because we have had to reinvent the way that we've been trained to teach my years of training and then of course the years and years of experience in doing something in particular way and then having to change that within a matter of weeks is it's been challenging and to say the least so we've been coaching our teachers who have Grace with the students and we would like to also asked you have that Grace with the the teachers and the school as we kind of go through this all together I got a review back to school night a little bit how it's done as I mentioned it was different in the past what would happen is that you would come out of the campus and you would basically follow your child schedule so why you would, you would have periods 1 through 6 in an advocacy class then you would go to. One in the New York. To along with the bell schedule we would have bells to tell you to go from one place to another in they must have felt installed at your home I'm sure that's not going to happen tonight so we're going to have count on you to be Uber organized tonight I'm too can you get from one place to another the teachers have generated their own Communication Service to you so what I mean by that is that every single teacher is not going to provide the exact same hi the back-to-school night experience they've all been asked to upload something to a centralized location where you can meet with them for some teachers they've chosen to have live Zoom meetings like these ones or live synchronous meetings I should say might not all be on Zoom through this type of format where you're going to go into their classroom and meet the teacher and I'll talk to you about their class brother teachers they have made a video for example and a PowerPoint presentation you were they and what they're going to be teaching the kids and the types of things that you can expect from them over the course of the year and giving you information about you no communication yet others have made it made a complete website and I cuz I have the video presentation on it it's got a syllabus on it's got a bell schedule it's got expectations rules regulations like the whole deal so depending on the Savvy of the teacher or preference of the teacher you're going to have different options. able to you and what you'll do is if you have live presentation you're going to want to make sure that you show up and that presentation at the appropriate. They are going to be time so we're going to go over the schedule right now and I'll highlight way that's going to look like so I'm is the weather if you don't mind can you please bring up the teacher links right now so I'll go ahead School website what are the best things to do is to like to zoom in and that's because there's a big campus that we have here make sure that we're able to see all of them so nice way to zoom in either Control Plus or just click on the screen that appears thank you Miss Laura so after you click the link in this link is going to be found on our our web page Chaparral Middle. Org the same web page that you've been gone to all along as well this presentation sweetie I get the recording and upload it as well as any number of other things that we're going to communicate to you as the night goes on but you this will be made live to you through our web page for you to be able to navigate through and click as appropriate and so I'm going to show you how to read it and understand it so if you look at Miss Aiken for example she has she has gone the whole 9-yard she has created a teacher well if you look under mistake the teacher website you're going to go to that and then you're going to activate that link and when you do so and when you do so the teacher website is going to pop right up so here's Miss Akins website and if you notice I'm off to the side here and you go back to miss Akins website by any chance you just have to go over on there's a video down at the bottom there's a lot of stuff right okay now it might not just be that I'm will go back to the overview but teachers have also created video to introduce themselves and go over there celibate this is the same video that she has better than your website so it's not something completely different let me say Ken has also made herself available why do resuming so if your child has mistaken for. One for example she can click that you will be able to click this link and can have a live interaction with Miss Akin at as she talks about her class in. One and so far and notice as you scroll through the document you can see that. One is going to go up from 5:40 to about 6 got the teachers to Target their resumes for about 20 minutes of pop so that gives the the parents the opportunity to log off and then go back into the. To zoom if they're going to do another classroom has a wide Zoom cuz that one at 6:05 you'll see the next one. Three starts at 6:30. For will start at 6:55 excetra now have live zooms because not all are deciding to use that poor man and that's okay but every single one of them will have some sort of an electronic format example if you click hers she has an embedded video where she goes over her class when you put that you're going to go right to miss Darby's video where she talks about her class so as you go down we have all the 6th grade teachers on top again keep in mind that only those with links attached under. 1 through 6 are having Live Events those are time sensitive you need to make sure that you go to those events at the appropriate time or you're going to miss them from 6. Is there a 6th grade to 7th grade and then what would keep talking over to notice that you are offered different thing some of them have very very expansive websites others have gone with videos other than I do live conference and some of got a combination of all of those things it really just kind of depends on their comfort level or what they felt like they would be able to use as the best way to communicate did you want to add for instant this teacher to put n a on the last live session they chose to also offer if it made most likely be because after preterite and they don't actually have a class during that time anybody was wondering right so if you're under the impression Chong your your child has mr. Chung six. But it says in a there's a good chance that you are a child has communicated the wrong. For mr. Chung because that's not his it's not an English. So this is mr. John's website right here okay and it's got a video integrated into it and keep your mind if you miss these are not going to be available for a number of so if you don't get to the videos now they're not time-sensitive it's no big deal what you really want to make sure that you do is go to the zoo sessions if your teacher is holding one at the appropriate time you can always go back to the videos that are embedded or to the website that has been embedded for your child's teacher so we invite you let's say hypothetically that every one of your child's teachers is embedded a zoom meeting and then you will just follow the schedule yoga today. One class at 5:40 there. To class at 6:05 excetera but if all of your child's teachers if it better videos then you will be able to go through those videos at your leisure and decide when and how long are you like to redo them this is especially relevant for those parents who feel like teachers can be long-winded and they've got the point already. You can hit pause and or escape and just get the heck out of there that's the happens sometimes you know when you talk for a living you learn to like it so you know that that's a possibility and you can you can do whatever you need to make sure that you have the appropriate understanding of that teachers classroom things have just been made lied to you through Chaparral Middle. Org before you leave we're going to go back and check and see if there are any questions or answers that you need we're going to open up and and see if anybody has any questions that are relevant so can you do that much to where I and it sounds like you're going to say something else too I can see it please note the website we have a couple of hear our counselor that made this tab on the school website is anybody ever needs emotional support you can click on that your child can click on that and that reaches out to our counselor so that they can fall and we chat with you that is okay ShopRite Community Club they are some wonderful parent leaders of those of you came for registration renewal to thank those of you who have donated already are apparently appreciate any way that you choose to help the school cuz it goes directly back to the classroom but we do have this link here called and it goes straight to again returned group and then they help us with purchases at the teachers are asking RTE department is one that utilizing those most recently so again thank you for helping us with that I'm going to go through and go back to where we were at your earliest when I click out of here stop sharing my screen alright alright last-minute questions we have about 5 minutes resume meetings at 5:40 do you know that mr. Thibodaux is all about making sure that we hit the deadline so I will cut everybody off at like 5:35 and then go directly to our panelists if you have a question you can go ahead and post that they're received the first one in if you go to Chaparral Middle. Org we have some more questions that came in so I'm going to go ahead and see those another question what is about textbook we have just received at our first shipment of science textbooks we do not have them all in yet it will take some time for our librarian to unpack all of those and barcode them and get them ready for distribution, but we are hopeful that we will have our science books on other than that all tax throughout so I think that this is must be referring to text book okay schedule file PDF is blurry do you know if you blow it up you'll be able to see it is the best way to zoom in there does Miss jarros link for science class doesn't work I just tried it and they are correct it's not taking you to a site okay we'll have to work on that I'm going to text her let me see if I can grab it real quick let's see if this is the link that should take you to that if you want to paste it into the canister Thibodeaux it will go to all you know this is Laura it is not allowing me to and on that maybe won't give us a bow 5 minutes or so after this and we will update that thank you for letting us know we appreciate that a couple of other questions we have there do we need to access teacher's websites and links or is that a more of a reference for future back to school night is it's a good overview introduction to the teachers so I would highly recommend that you visit their style and if they have live sessions assassin's I would definitely visit them so that you can actually interact from the distance learning kind of approach possibly they might open up for question and answer during their back-to-school Night Live sessions there was a question about student ID card we have received those back and we will likely be Distributing those two students when they come in and get their science book on we would mail them out but often is when we mail things out we discovered that many of our parents have not given us the proper address and since the ID cards are gone if they don't come back we're going to try and connect that to our science distribution text books to have been distributed if you have a question there was a question about math textbook if for some reason your child has a math textbook please reach out to the counselor we will have to consult with you about that cuz to the best of our knowledge the math books are out to everyone there's a question about sports currently there is no plan for sports there is there's no there are no students allowed currently on on campus is really no way other than virtual sports that we would be able to have an athletic program right now but if our learning program changes meaning that were able to come on campus and the CDC guidelines change as well that is something that we could potentially look into later on another question came out about advocacy if you looked at our block schedule for this year you'll know that we no longer have an advocacy class and not my run distance if we go back to the traditional scheduled we have ordinarily then your child will have the advocacy class has been communicated to them but in distance the agreed-upon schedule removes advocacy so there is no advocacy class again about picture taking and in trying to get pictures we are not planning a picture day right now because we cannot have students on campus in the house we have to follow social distancing but we're hoping to have a student picture day in the spring let's see yes Miss during that is listed as a 7th grade teacher cuz she teaches seventh and eighth-grade but the video that she's posted applicable 7th or 8th grade classes so don't let that dissuade you okay let's see still blurry after I zoom in well you know what the good thing is all you got to do is press the link and it takes you to where you so even if it's blurry pressing the button will take you right to where you need to go and I think that the teacher's name is big enough that you'll know that so hopefully hopefully you'll be able to navigate through that are Paula or the the blurriness of the Techno I can't really speak to that lets see questions about scheduling need to go to the counselor we've got a couple of questions about scheduling please email your counselor you got that I miss my hair at Miss Hildebrand it says you're not working as well so we'll have to look into that I had to put a little bit of time what kind of take it from there let's see yeah I'm sorry for those who just tuned in we're not going to be able to go over everything again you're just going to have
