Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is our most advanced band at Chaparral Middle School. Students in this group need to be competent at reading music and playing advanced literature as there are many performances throughout the year.

The Chaparral Wind Ensemble has performed at prestigious venues and has developed a reputation for excellence. In 2019 The Wind Ensemble performed at the Festival of Gold in San Francisco, receiving a Gold Rating ranking 2cnd place against high school and middle school bands, by only .33! In 2018. Under the direction of Leslie Schroerlucke, the Wind Ensemble performed at the National Invitational Festival of Gold at Chicago Symphony Hall in 2018 and was the only music ensemble selected to perform at the state-wide convention for the California School Board Association in San Diego. In 2017, the ensemble performed at the Los Angeles Festival of Gold, receiving a gold rating and first place ranking, competing against high school ensembles.  In 2015, they performed at the  Kennedy Center’s John Philip Sousa Band  Festival, as the only middle school band in the country for which they commissioned and premiered “Memories of Sousa” by Buster Clements. The Wind Ensemble  performed at Chicago Symphony Hall in 2011 as the only middle school band at the Percy Grainger Festival. The group has  worked with renowned clinicians including Gary Hill, Anthony Maiello, Colonel Arnold Gabriel, and many others.
