Honor Band Auditions
Honor Groups
All Southern Bands and Orchestras
Each year the SCSBOA All-Southern California Honor Groups provide the finest young instrumentalists in southern California with opportunities to rehearse with some of the most outstanding music educators in the world. This is a great experience for students to work with outstanding musicians and conductors. Even the audition experience is a good thing to do.
Eligibility requirements for Honor Groups:
Enrollment in School Music Groups
Participation is limited to regularly enrolled students of a public or private school who are officially enrolled in that school's performance organizations at the time of application, acceptance, rehearsal, and performance of their respective Honor Groups. If a student attends a school where a performance organization/ensemble is not offered, that student's private teacher may recommend and endorse that student's application as long as the private teacher is a member in good standing of the SCSBOA.
Grade Level
6th, 7th, and 8th graders may apply for all Middle School Honor Groups.
6th grade students can still apply for the Elementary Band, and this is strongly advised unless a student is very advanced. The competition for middle school bands is fierce. See the link below to download the required music for the elementary band auditions!
Other Requirements
Participation is limited to those students who file properly completed official Honor Group applications along with the required application fees by the postmark deadline.
Participation is limited to those students whose directors/teachers are current SCSBOA members in good standing.
Participation is limited to those students who can commit to attend all Honor Group rehearsal and performances without exception. Please read all the information and make sure you can follow through with this commitment.
Process: Students will submit a video of their performance in the first round. Selected students will go on to an in-person live audition. Please see the video on the scsboa.org website for an explanation of this processs.

You can print out the scales from this page and start practicing them. Solos for trumpet, flute, alto sax and tuba will be assigned to Wind Ensemble members on Smartmusic. If you are not in Wind Ensemble but would like to get honor band music, see Mrs. Schroerlucke. Solos can also be ordered online. You will need an original copy for the audition. Copies will not be allowed.
